Looking back, I think my love for photography began with the blinding flash of my mother’s Brownie camera – the bare bulb literally left me seeing spots. She loved to take pictures, and as I got older, I came to really appreciate those images and the way she had documented my childhood. She also encouraged me to pick up the camera, and in second grade, I can remember borrowing her Brownie to take pictures of my friends at school. Photography became something of a hobby, but college and career took me down a different path. Then, one night while having dinner with my husband, I got a completely crazy idea – quit my job and become an artist. It took me a few years, but I eventually did just that.

After the birth of my oldest son, I found my priorities and interests had really changed. So, I took that as my opportunity to finally enroll in a few of those photography classes that I had been talking about. I had found my passion, and it was only the beginning. Since then, I have been fortunate to attend numerous courses offered the Photographic Center Northwest, Rocky Mountain School of Photography and Exposure36. I am forever grateful to my husband, Tom, for his unending support, and to several of my instructors for so generously sharing their knowledge and offering such encouragement.
